With power applied, the MFJ-1707 senses transmitted RF and switches the antenna from receive to transmit using a relay. The antenna socket to the receiver is then grounded which protects the receiver. There is a delay circuit adjustment which gives you delayed switching. It also has a control line input, which allows switching from an external key, keyer or foot switch.
